There are 24 tenses in English in grammar rules. But we occasionally use all those tenses. This means that there are only five or six tenses that we use very often. English tenses are one of the important parts of the English grammars, because every sentence we say is in tenses. Many languages use tenses to talk about time. Other languages have no tenses, but of course they can still talk about time, using different methods. So, we talk about time in English with tenses.
